Growing Greenhouse Sweet Peppers in soil

from:

Sweet pepper is known by different names. It is called bell pepper, capsicum, etc. Sweet pepper can be grown in greenhouses. However, certain conditions have to be followed. This article will help you, if you wish to grow greenhouse sweet pepper in soil. Sweet pepper production is undertaken in a greenhouse considering the cycle of the complete year. The production of sweet pepper begins in December. The harvest takes place during March. Harvesting continues till December. And then starts another cycle.

The soil that is used for the production of sweet pepper has to be prepared in advance. The preparation process is the same as that of tomatoes. However, sweet pepper requires potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus, in much less quantity. The draining capacity of the soil should be good. A Ph level of 6.5 to 7.5 is considered optimal. If organic matter is added then the capacity of the soil to hold water will be more. Nutrients and minerals will augment its growth. However, the soil should contain less amount of salt.

The cultivars of sweet pepper should be chosen properly. Before planting the seeds of sweet pepper do make sure that the greenhouse is clean. The seed should be fresh. The seeds can be placed inside roockwool plugs. Its temperature should be 250 to 260C. After the seedlings emerge and leaves begin to appear, they can be placed into larger cubes of roockwool. They should have enough space to grow. The supplemental light that is given should be reduced after about five weeks. It should be 14 hours in the day. Young plants of sweet pepper are transplanted into the greenhouse. These transplants are aged about six weeks.

If the supply of water is a lot then it could affect the growth of the roots. The nutrient solution that is added should increase with the growth. Temperature should be 210C during day and 160C at night after 1 week of being transplanted. The sweet pepper plants need to be pruned regularly since they keep getting new leaves and stems. Do not blind the main stem in the process of pruning. 160C is considered optimal for fruiting and flowering. Pollination of sweet peppers takes place naturally. The fruits should get about 85-90% color. Then, they can be harvested. Hopefully, this information will help you get started with sweet pepper production in soil in greenhouses.
