Growing Grapes in a Greenhouse

from:

Grapes are fruits that are liked by a large number of people. If you are among those grape lovers then there’s good news for you. You can grow grapes in your own greenhouse. All that you need to do is to know the conditions required for the growth of grapes in greenhouses. If these conditions are kept in mind, you will definitely get a good produce of grapes.

First, you should consider the variety of grapes that you can grow in the greenhouse. Under the white variety comes Buckland Sweetwater. White Frontignac, etc. In case of the black variety, Black Frontignac can be sown. The variety should be chosen as per the disease resistance and other such conditions. Vines can be grown in a greenhouse. In this case, the vines are planted outside the greenhouse. The main stem is placed in such a way so they can come out through a hole that is located at a low level. Through this, the plant enters the greenhouse.

When the grape vine is growing, it requires large amount of sunlight. So, place the vines at an angle where they receive a lot of sun. When the leaves become full, then a lot of shade needs to be provided. So, if there are other plants growing, make sure that they can grow under conditions of shaded humidity. The other plants that can be grown along with grapes include Ferns, Begonia, Stretocarpus, Fuschias, Gloxinias, etc. In case of a large greenhouse, even tomatoes and cucumbers can be grown.

There are certain instances where people have made use of polytunnels for the purpose of growing grapes. The centre of the tunnel can prove to be a good place to plant the vines. Care should be taken that they are at a distance from the side. This permits the circulation of air to take place in a proper manner. If the tunnel happens to be very large in size, then you can even plant the vines in two separate rows. The space between them should be same as when you plant them outdoors. The soil for growing grapes should have humus. Weeds should be uprooted each time. Vine begins to crop after 3 years. Bunches of grapes should be thinned out when it reaches the size of a pea. With these facts in mind, do start your vineyard in your greenhouse!
