Expanding On Bonsai Art
from:Bonsai is an art form in which the plant is miniaturized to an extent that trees which are supposed to grow several meters high can be contained in a pot. Bonsai art has its basic designs and forms and then some. Variations in the basic forms of bonsai comprise of several bonsai art designs and concept which make ht art form what it is today. The five basic forms of bonsai art are formal upright, informal upright, slanting, cascading and semi-cascading. From these bonsai art designs stem many other different designs which are conceptualized to catch the eye of the beholder as well as draw appreciation from the viewers.
Root Over Rock Designs
This is one of the more popular bonsai art designs to ever hit the world. Bonsai enthusiasts from old Japan loved to mimic reality, thus the root over rock design was created to mimic trees which have roots growing visibly on top of rocks in real life. To create this design, one needs to anchor the roots over a rock which is in proportion with the container and the bonsai plant itself. Rocks that are too small will look overwhelmed while rocks that are too big give the impression the plant being the rocks hair. To achieve this bonsai art form, the roots of the bonsai plant should be draped in such a way over the rock as to give the impression that the roots are trying to seek out nutrients.
Broom Style Bonsai Art
This form of bonsai art is a unique form in which the tree is almost completely bare at the bottom half while the upper part has a broom like series of leaves or branches sticking out and upwards. Elm trees do very well for this design compared to pines and junipers. One requirement for this type of bonsai art is to seek tree stock with a straight trunk. The initial elm will then be cut near the top to encourage new growth. The cut is wrapped up to discourage the swelling that usually comes with new growth. The wrapping is usually kept on until about two years when the growth is established. Branches from the cut edge are chosen for the broom like growth and those not chosen as cut off.
These are just two of the other designs which can be made from bonsai art. Bonsai art is a fine art form that has meditative effects for those who take care of the bonsai plants personally.
