The Right Type Of Bonsai Plants

from:

When it comes to growing bonsai you will soon learn that the type on bonsai plants you choose is possibly the most important decision you will make. The type of plant you choose for your bonsai will determine the style or shape that you can achieve.

It will also determine the kinds of design that you can get. There are also some bonsai plants that are more suited to certain climates. Depending on your home and your aesthetic plan for your plants there are many different kinds of bonsai you can choose from.

The Ficus

If you have ever looked at bonsai plants that have the roots over rock style then the Ficus is the plant for you. This plant adapts very well to the roots on rock style and its aerial roots can also be incorporated into the design. If you want a plant that does not need such frequent watering then this is a suitable plant for you to choose. It can go a day or two without watering, but water sparingly as overwatering might cause the roots to rot.

Japanese Maple

If you would like bonsai plants that have some color then the Japanese maple is for you. It has brilliant autumn foliage, and its leaves are delicate and very beautiful. This plant can be a little delicate and requires some shelter from wind and shade in the summer. This might be a better plant for you if you have a winter climate. This may be a little hard to find but with some detective work you should be able to find this beautiful plant.

Flowering Quince

If you would like bonsai plants that flower or look stunning then there is no going wrong with the flowering quince. This amazing plant bears flowers in winter when other plants are bare and look dead. The flowers are even more spectacular with the contrast of its bare branches. This is one of the bonsai plants that are quite versatile in terms of styles.

You can train your flowering quince into a variety of styles, such as cascade, raft, and twin trunk. This plant will do well in an area with lots of sun, but not in a place that is too hot. The soil should be well drained and you should keep these bonsai plants watered properly. Whatever the plant type you choose, each one comes with its own challenges so that not all rules apply to keeping your bonsai plants alive and well.
