Japanese Bonsai: Expressing Nature’s Unique Spirit

from:

The Egyptians and the Chinese may have originated the Bonsai but the Japanese Bonsai is no less impressive and in fact many of the techniques developed by the Japanese are more refined and a wonderful art form in it. It therefore makes sense to learn more about Japanese Bonsai which in fact is a fusion of not only long held Japanese beliefs but which also incorporates philosophies of the East and promotes harmony between man and nature and the soul. What’s more, even though many centuries have passed the essence of modern Japanese Bonsai remains more or less the same.

Uses Azaleas

In Japanese Bonsai, the norm is to use Azaleas with which to create masterpieces of Bonsai that in turn requires spending years and year on pruning and wiring and taking good care of the Bonsai. Both the Chinese way of growing Bonsais and the Japanese forms are rooted in cultures from ancient Asia.

However, Japanese Bonsai is different in that it incorporates dwarfed plants raised in pots which are something that is unique for the Japanese people and this form is also a lot different than what is at present being practiced in America.

Another feature to the Japanese Bonsai is judges the quality of the Bonsai tree which in turn is established by how well the tree can portray nature in a miniaturized form. So, for good quality Japanese Bonsai trees it is necessary that the tree should have its trunk tapered and there should be many branches surrounding the tree to add more visual depth. What’s more, Japanese Bonsai also requires that tree and its pot should make for a harmonious pairing.

To get the desired results requires that you take out time and spend years and years on taking care to produce an excellent example of Japanese Bonsai that should be such that it is able to extend its beauty and which must also give expression to the importance of life. For the Japanese, this care represents to them a way of meditating and being in harmony with nature.

Though the basic concept of Japanese Bonsai remains more or less the same, it has over a period of time also begun to incorporate various styles with each style being absorbed by the other. This means that you can use tropical indoor Bonsais which can then be trained to incorporate classic styles such as the slanted trunk and windswept styles.

In any case, Japanese Bonsai is representative of the unique Japanese culture as well as their ideals and though Bonsai today is not uniquely oriental it has become when practiced by the Japanese a very impressive way of expressing nature’s unique spirit.
