Troubleshooting the problems of the spider plants.
from:The botanical name of the spider plant is chlorophytum comosum. These plants are easy to grow. They is no problem in the growth of these plants. The characteristic of these plants is that they have the baby spiders hanging overboard. The growth of these plants starts in the form of small white flowers. The important feature of these spider plants is that they give out a large amount of oxygen. Secondly, these plants have an inherent capability in them to remove the pollutants from the surrounding air. Thus the spider plant indirectly helps in improving the quality of the surrounding air.
There are two varieties of the spider plants. One of which consists of green leaves with a white margins. The other plant type is green leaf with white central stripe. The spider plants are very sensitive to the tap water. They are also very sensitive to the chemicals. The effect of these chemicals is immediately seen on the leaves of these spider plants. The plants show brown tips on their leaves due to the chemical exposure. That is why they should not be exposed to the chemicals. The solution for this is that they should be watered with distilled water, rain water, reverse osmosis water, melted snow or water collected from humidifier. Also these spider plants should not be sprayed with any leaf shining product.
Sometimes the leaves of the spider plants look dull and rough. In dry weather it usually happens that the leaves of these spider plants are covered with web. In such a case the spider plant should be sprayed with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
At the time of producing flowers the spider plants look floppy and weak. In such situations it should be supplied with more fertilizer every two weeks than the usual feeding.
In some situations the plant starts rottening at the centre. Rottening of the plants is usually caused due to over watering of the plant. If the plant has started rottening it should be removed from the pot. The rotten part must be separated out from the rest and replanted.
Sometimes the leaves of these plant suddenly become transparent. This is an indication that the weather is too cold for it. In such a situation it must be exposed to a warmer atmosphere.
Sometimes it happens that all the baby spiders grow at one end of the plant. Due to this the plant cannot stand straight or it leans on the side of the baby spiders. In such a situation the spider plant should be replanted by evenly arranging the plantlets of the spider plant.
