Plant Propagation of Spider Plant
from:Spider plant is a commonly known type of house plant. Usually, this plant is grown by people who take up gardening for the first time. Spider plants grow well within the house itself. They don’t require much maintenance either. This has added to their popularity. Very few problems are experienced while growing spider plants. In addition to that, they absorb pollutants and release oxygen into the surrounding air. These plants can be grown either in containers or in baskets. Usually hanging baskets are used. The shoots of the plants hang out from the basket.
You can undertake the propagation of spider plants. All you need to do is follow the necessary techniques. Spider plants usually produce stalks or shoots. Very small baby plants start growing at the bottom of the stalks. The spider plants that grow out of the stalks should be removed from the main plant. The roots of these new plants should be immersed in water. You should allow the roots to grow for about an inch. The length could be a little more. After the roots have reached this length they should be transplanted into a container. The soil that you use in the container should be very rich and it should drain well.
The question that often arises is why the production of baby plants occurs. The plant should be root bound. After the binding of the roots has occurred, it will produce a new plant. The new plant that is produced is very small. Hence, the container that is used should not be very large. Good care should be taken. However, it does not require much care. After propagating the spider plant, a liquid fertilizer ought to be used for nourishment. In order to ensure good growth, the fertilizer should be fed once during two to about four weeks.
Low light conditions are ideal for the growth of spider plants. Adequate sunlight should be provided during the growth process. However, a cold temperature can prove detrimental to the growth of spider plants. Hence, very low temperatures should be avoided at all costs. Thus, it can be seen that spider plants are among the simplest plants that can be taken up for propagation. Actually, the spider plant propagates itself. It produces baby plants itself. So, the method of division should be used for plant propagation.
