Spider plant propagation.
from:Plant propagation is a method of asexual reproduction in plants. Asexual reproduction takes place with the help of stem, roots and leaves of these plants. Plant propagation is a method in which rapid multiplication of the stock plant or the mother plant takes place so that the plant grows in a large number of its progeny plants. This is done by the modern techniques that have been developed recently. There are different types of asexual or vegetative reproduction techniques like the grafting, air layering and cutting. The propagation time is different for different plants. The propagation time is mainly dependent on the type of propagation, the type of the species and the environmental conditions in which the propagation is being carried out.
The botanical name of the spider plant is chlorophytum comosum. These plants are easy to grow. They have no problem in the growth of these plants. The characteristic of these plants is that they have the baby spiders hanging overboard. The growth of these plants starts in the form of small white flowers. The important feature of these spider plants is that they give out a large amount of oxygen. Secondly, these plants have an inherent capability in them to remove the pollutants from the surrounding air.
Thus the spider plant indirectly helps in improving the quality of the surrounding air.
There are two varieties of the spider plants. One of which consists of green with a white margins. The other plant type is green with white central stripe. The spider plants are very sensitive to the tap water. They are also very sensitive to the chemicals. The effect of these chemicals is immediately seen on the leaves of these spider plants. The plants show brown tips on their leaves.
In propagating the spider plants they should be exposed to medium to high light. One should also take care that these spider plants should not be exposed to direct sunlight in the afternoon. The light requirements are different for different types of spider plants. The variegated types require more light than the plain green plants. One more important fact about the spider plants is that they should not be supplied with excess water than required. This is because they have roots which are large and fleshy and store a large amount of water in them. Thus if excess of water is added to them then there is a possibility that these plants can get rotton . Thus one should understand the basic requirements of the spider plants during their propagation period.
