The important feature of these spider plants is that they give out a large amount of oxygen. Secondly, these plants have an inherent capability in them to remove the pollutants from the surrounding air. Thus the spider plant indirectly helps in improving the quality of the surrounding air. There are two varieties of the spider plants. One of which consists of green with a white margins. The other plant type is green with white central stripe. It is also important to note that different plant varieties require different quantities of light. The variegated spider plants require more light than the plain spider plants.
The water requirements of these spider plants ids typically less than the other plants. The spider plants have large and fleshy roots. They have a large water storing capacity in them. Thus these plants should not be provided with excess of water. In case if these plants are provided with excess water than there is a possibility that they can get rotten.
The temperature that is favorable for propagation of these plants is above 40 degree F. If the temperature goes bellow this the plant can be damaged. The spider plants need to be supplied with the fertilizers in the summer and the springs. The soil requirements of the spider plants is that they should be planted in a good peat based soil or some plants require loam to be added to the soil to improve its stability.
If in case the spider plant in a pot grows such that the roots occupy the total pot and watering becomes difficult then in such situations the plant should be repotted. This situation can occur atleast once or twice a year during the growth of these spider plants.
The propagation of the spider plants is done in a interesting way. This is done by placing a mother plant near a new pot with no plant in it. Then take a plantlet of the mother plant and place it in a new plant. After some time new leaves will start appearing on the plantlet in the new pot. After the formation of new leaves cut of the connection between the parent plant and the new plantlet. Extra care about the light, temperature, fertilizer and other requirements of the new plant should be taken.
