In addition to this there are some plants that have very small seeds and take a long time for its germination. These seeds are better if they are sown indoors. The basic requirements for indoor plant growth is that they require fluorescent or grow lights, disinfected containers with excellent drainage, pasteurized (sterile) seed starting medium and a location with proper temperature and ventilation.
The growing medium for the indoor plants should be uniform and have a good texture. The requirement of the fertilizer in the soil should be checked regularly. The growing medium should basically consist of soil, sand, perlite or vermiculture.
The container required for the growth of the indoor plants can be of a simple kind. The only thing is that it should be at least 2 inches deep. The different options for the container are the compressed pits, pellets, peat pots, paper pots, plastic cell packs and flats. The pit and clay pots dry more quickly as compared to the plastic containers. This is because the pit or clay containers are more porous than the plastic containers.
Seed sowing for a particular plant must be done at a particular time of the year. Further one must know the time period for which the plant should be kept indoor. This is because if it kept indoor for a longer period then the plant performs poorly if transplanted into the garden. The time requirement for the seedling to be ready for transplantation in the garden is different for different plants. This period before transplantation is also dependent on the growth rate of the seedling and the weather conditions during that period. Once the seedlings are germinated than the plant is removed from the container and planted in a location that is full of light and have cool temperature.
The care of the seedlings should be taken right from the start of seed germination indoors to the transplantation of the plant outdoors. The light and the temperature requirements should be considered at every stage of development of the seedling. The requirement of fertilizers should be checked at the time of seed germination. At this time the growing medium must be supplied with more fertilizers than what is usually supplied. At the time of transplantation the seedling should be kept in a cooler location. But at the same time it should be exposed to proper sunlight.
