House plant care+ propagation.
from:The realization that propagating plants in house is an easy task has led people to go for House plant propagation. There are two ways in which propagation of plant takes place namely the sexual and the asexual type of reproduction. Asexual reproduction is also called as vegetative propagation. The sexual type of propagation takes place with the help of seeds and spores. The asexual type of reproduction takes place with the help of using the part of the original plant such as the stem, Leaves and the roots. Generally the plants that are planted in the house are of the shrub types, or the tree types, or the herbaceous perennials or the trees. It is very difficult to grow such plants from the seed stage. Thus the propagation of such plants is done by vegetative means.
Vegetative propagation generates plant that is genetically identical to the parent plant.
In case of vegetative type of propagation the reproduction takes place with the help of cuttings, division, and layering or by using specialized structures of the mother plant such as the runners and the offsets.
Cutting is the most common and the cheapest form of vegetative propagation. The cuttings are made from stems, leaves, roots, parts of leaves and thick canes. One care that should be taken while cutting the parts of the mother plant is that these plants should be taken from the disease and insect free area of the mother plant.
Air layering is a very useful method in case of plants which has large leaves. When the leaves of the plants are large they loose the moisture in them. It is because of this reason that these plants can not be grown through stem cutting. Air layering method allows the upper portion of the plant to develop roots. The new plant in this case is still attached to the parent plant. Thus air layering can help the growth of such plants that cannot be grown with the help of stem cutting.
Division method is useful for plants which have more than one stem arising from the soil. In such plants the parent plant is removed from the pot and separated into a number of parts with enough roots to each part. These parts are then grown as individual plants.
Thus houseplant propagation is easy and interesting and can lead to profit.
