Plant Propagation basically is used to refer to the large scale multiplication or circulation of plants in a variety of places. Plant propagation can occur in two ways namely sexual propagation as well as asexual propagation. The propagation of lipstick plant is usually undertaken asexually. Cuttings are used for plant propagation of the lipstick plant.
Aeschynanthus radicans is one type of lipstick plant. Trees have certain angles in their branches. The lipstick plant grows in these angles. However, the lipstick plant is not a parasitic plant. Hence, even if it grows on the branch of a tree it does not live off the tree. It gets nourished from the leaves that fall from the tree. Sometimes, twigs gather in between the branches. The plant gets nourishment from these twigs too. The flowers of the lipstick plant bloom during the period of May and August.
The propagation of the lipstick plant is done through the use of cuttings.
Heat is needed to be provided between the range of seventy two and seventy five degrees. The plant will require a large amount of sunlight. However, the sunlight should not be direct. The heat during the period of summer is beneficial for them. Even during winter the temperature should not fall below sixty degrees. The supply of water should be maintained adequately. And fertilizer should be added to the new plant as and when it is needed. Misting of the lipstick plant ought to be undertaken regularly. There is no problem if the plant dries out slightly during the watering sessions. Very little amount of water should be given during the winter months. The winter month is usually a time for resting.
Another type of lipstick plant is Annato. This can be easily propagated through cuttings. If seeds are used for plant propagation the time needed for growth is very high. Cuttings are taken from wood that has matured. This helps in better propagation of the lipstick plant. In spite of the long time duration that is needed for the propagation of lipstick plant seeds are used. Hence, it can be seen that the propagation of lipstick plant is best undertaken through cuttings. Cuttings being a method of vegetative reproduction it produces exactly identical plants to the main plant.
